organic compound isolated from rind mangosteen. It is a yellow
crystalline solid with a
xanthone core structure. Mangostin and a variety of other xanthones from
mangosteen have been investigated for biological properties including
antioxidant, anti-bacterial,
anti-inflammatory activities.
